GTR Newspapers – Follow Chad Kellogg on his Attempt to Speed Ascend Mt. Everest Solo – April 6, 2010/

Seattle, WA — Outdoor Research, manufacturer of functional solutions for human powered adventure, will be documenting in real time the ultimate human powered adventure: Chad Kellogg’s attempt to speed ascend 29,029-foot Mt. Everest, without oxygen or sherpas.

It’s going to be challenging. It’s going to be pushing beyond my physical limits. The most important thing is to complete it and not die. Outdoor Research has sponsored the 38-year-old American climber on this expedition, as well as his expedition to summit the South Face of Argentina’s Aconcagua (22,841 feet) in December 2009, which served as part of his two and a half years of training for his speed climb of Everest.

Chad Kellogg To Attempt Speed Ascent On Everest/

I’m sure I’m going to regret posting this at some point, as the anti-Chad Kellogg brigade begins their invasion, but it’s still news of an important climb on Everest this year, so I’m going to risk it none-the-less.A few days back, climber Chad Kellogg left for Kathmandu, where he will begin preparing for a daring speed attempt on Mt. Everest. Kellogg will be climbing on the South Side of the mountain, in Nepal, and expects to spend the next month and a half preparing. During that time, he’ll be scouting the route, establishing gear and food caches, and acclimatizing before he makes the summit bid sometime around mid-May.

Kellogg’s goal is to make the trip to the summit in under 30 hours, and he also intends to go without supplemental oxygen and without Sherpas, which give this climb an even more interesting challenge and edge.

Those of us following along at home can get updates to the climb via theVeritculture website for the Everest Quest. Chad is sponsored in this endeavor by Outdoor Research, a company whose gear I’ve been very impressed with, and that has outfitted me with some good items to take to Nepal as well.

As for the Anti-Chad brigade, please save your e-mails and comments. I’m aware of the arguments for and against this guy and don’t need to be reminded. Thanks anyway!

Outdoorzy – Chad Kellogg Attempts Everest Speed Record – April 1, 2010/

This week Chad Kellogg left for his attempt to summit Everest at record speed. According to Outside Kellogg will try this without oxygen, sherpas, or a partner…. all alone. Chad’s goal is to make the summit in 30-something hours. Outdoor Research is sponsoring a broadcast of the trip through audio broadcasts on The Everest Quest. Fitz Cahall of The Dirtbag Diaries is producing this, so it should be good.

Since Kellogg’s wife died in a climbing accident in Alaska he has embraced challenges such as this. “Now is all you have. You have to make the most of it.” he says.
