Examiner.com – Featuring OR’s Graphic Dry Bags and Backsacks – August 15th, 2010
In the land of Outdoor Research, where weird is done well, the theme is Alpine-Trail-Rock for Spring 2011.
Their successful Lab Rats program, in which they invite customers to become part of the company’s research and development team, netted new drybags with weird (but well done) graphics so you never mix up your dry bag with someone else’s. The graphics are also on their backsacks (not backpacks, but backsacks).

Read the Latest Outdoor Gear Reviews
Nothing puts the Helium Jacket to the test than a wet and windy spring hike. Under duress from the elements, the Outdoor Research Helium Jacket surpassed expectations. The only place that water penetrated the jacket’s Pertex fortress is at the elastic cuffs, and this was only minimal.
The Helium Jacket showed its windproofing ability by giving ample protection in a heavy headwind. Many wind/waterproof shells are known to have poor wicking ability and holding perspiration against your body instead of wicking it away. The Helium Jacket showed above average breathability and didn’t trap the sweat while meandering on the trails.
The jacket packs into the interior Velcro-secured pocket. This makes it convenient to pack in your pack. Or it can be secured to the exterior of your pack from its reinforced loop with a carabineer.
Outdoor Research offers the Helium Jacket in three colors – gold, grey, and black – and it retails for $140. It carries an Infinite Guarantee, Outdoor Research’s limited lifetime warranty.
