THE DEEPER YOU GET, THE DEEPER YOU GET
The DryComp Ridge Sack from Outdoor Research weighs just 16 ounces, feels light in the hands, and is translucent, so finding that elusive piece of gear is easy. And for something as simple as a sack with two shoulder straps, it’s pretty darn high tech, with sonically welded seams that make it watertight, lighter, and sleeker.

If the words “dry bag” conjure a heavy, smelly, PVC-coated beast of a rolltop duffle, it’s time to update your frame of reference.
The best way to view the DryComp Ridge is as a duffel you can carry on your back rather than a minimalist backpack. The 2,000-cubic-inch carryall is perfect for a river trip where you want get some distance from the water at night–you can squeeze a night’s worth of fastpacking gear if you go light–but with no suspension or padding against your spine, it’s not comfortable enough for a multi-day, at least not by our modern pussy willow standards. A guy like John Muir would carry a cotton gin in one, no doubt. The straps are wide and plenty well padded, too, and there’s a 3/4-inch webbing waistbelt to stabilize.
